Around the beginning of September, I purchased a new Apple Mac Pro for my home office. Since that time, I've
been completely delighted with the performance and low-noise of this system. Without a doubt, Apple has a real engineering masterpiece in the Mac Pro.
The Daddy Mac™
- Apple Mac Pro
- Dual 2.66 GHz Intel Xeon 5150 Dual-Core Woodcrest Processors
- 4 GB (8 x 512 MB) Apple FB-DIMM Memory
- ATI X1900 XT PCI Express Video Card , 512MB GDDR3 RAM
- Apple 23" Cinema HD Display
- Apple Pro Keyboard
- Microsoft Intellimouse Optical USB
- Epson Stylus Photo R2400 Printer
- Wacom Intuos3 6x9" Digitizer Tablet
I run a variety of operating systems on the Mac, but the main is OS-X 10.4.8. Under that, I run Parallels Desktop virtualization software and have
virtual machines with Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 Server, and Fedora Core 5 Linux. That's the main reason for 4 GB of RAM in the system - it runs
good with 2GB but more RAM is needed for simultaneous virtual machines. It's a shame RAM for the Mac Pro is still so expensive, otherwise I'd have 8 GB in there.
